As so many of us have come to understand, home isn’t really ever one place. It’s many places, with many people, a feeling. For instance, it's sharing a bottle of red with my best friend on her little balcony, laughing until we cry, rigatoni and sauce at my Nonni’s house chatting about the old days with my late Papa, learning a regional Spanish dialect from my husband’s mom, and of course my parent’s place, where no matter how stressed or tired I am, I’m taken care of. These all have three things in common - the people I love, myself, and our beloved city of Denver. 

I've gotten to delight in stories about old Denver through the lenses of my parents and grandparents, who were all born and raised here: the department stores they shopped, the restaurants they frequented, and what city life was like decades ago. This collection is a modern homage to them, the city I've loved my entire life, and the one of yesteryear that I daydream about. 

Speaking of shopping, did you know that the Tivoli used to be a shopping center before a college campus hub? Or that before Macy’s was in Colorado, it was Foley’s, and before that, May D&F, and before that, Daniels & Fisher - a department store whose iconic clock tower still stands today on 16th St?
